A 90–minute presentation for parents done on school campus
Attendance can be promoted by:
- School endorsement and announcement
- Flyers, emails, and phone calls to all families
- Incentive–based reward for students who get their parents to attend
Parent training will include:
- Statistics & attitudes regarding youth depression and suicide
- Dispelling the myths about youth depression and suicide
- What is depression, who gets depressed, and types of depression
- How to identify children who are hurting or at–risk for suicide (Warning Signs and Risk Factors)
- How to create healthy environments for young people
- How to talk to a hurting child
- How to assess the risk level of the child
- Where to refer a potentially at–risk child and how to contact these referrals
